Last year, a lot of our traveling plans were canceled and put on hold, but as things seem to become a little more safe a lot of us are starting to plan our trips again. If you’ve ever traveled with kids before, you know how fun it can be to travel with them. But, you probably also know how stressful it can also be. Making sure they have everything they need, trying to bring everything so they stay entertained, all the while trying not to forget anything important… It can get overwhelming to say the least! But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Travel strollers
A travel stroller is definitely a must when traveling with children. A few things to consider when picking the best travel stroller that will work for you and your family are the weight and how compact and small it can fold into. These are always the first things I personally check, as well as how many seats it has depending on how many kids you will be using it for. I personally don’t own this travel stroller, but the reviews are amazing and it seems to be a great option, and it is super affordable.  Another feature to look for is reasonable size undercarriage to hold small bags and other things you may not want to carry.
Car seats
Depending on the type of vacation you are taking, in most cases you will need a car seat for your kids. I’ve been stuck in several situations trying to carry a child, carry on luggage, backpack, and a massive car seat to the airplane. And, I immediately end up regretting not renting the crappy car seat from the car rental company. Next time we travel I plan on ordering these small, light weight car seats that can be worn as a backpack and are easy to carry. If your kids are old enough to sit for long hours, try to check in your car seat for a hassle free experience.
Slumber Pod Sleep Tent
Being stuck in the same room with your baby or small toddler can be very challenging, especially as you try to put them to sleep. With so many distractions, noises, and lights on it can make it the process much longer and difficult. We have had countless hangouts on the bathroom floor in a hotel so our kids can fall asleep and sleep through the night. Well, Not any more! A slumber pod is a tent you can put over the portable crib which creates a dark space for them to fall asleep easier. Put a white noise machine close to help cancel out the noise too if you have older kids, and they will fall asleep hassle free.

Portable Crib

Depending on your kid’s ages, bringing a portable crib will probably be a good idea. Usually hotels will sometimes have cribs available if requested, but in the case they don’t or you’re staying at an airbnb, it is a great idea to bring one along. Keeping the kids well rested even when traveling is key to having an enjoyable trip… for everyone involved. I find we all are able to get a better good night’s rest when everyone is able to sleep through the night on their own, so we like to bring this along for Lucy to sleep in and it is a game changer.

Portable High Chair

A travel high chair is one of those things you assume you don’t really need, but ends up being something nice to have on hand. We have this one and absolutely love it as it is compact and easy to fold and unfold. It has built in straps so your toddler stays secure, and even has a tray which comes in handy. Definitely helpful to have when you travel with toddlers and our favorite travel essential for kids.

Mini Voyager Travel Activity

I always like to make sure to bring activities and toys for the kids to stay entertained, whether you’re traveling in an airplane or car it comes in handy. These mini voyager activity sets are so nice and the kids love them. They’re easy to throw in your bag, and a fun, mess free activity for the kids. I have a feeling these are going to be our favorite travel essentials for kids.

Tylenol

Although it’s not always planned for, sometimes kids tend to start feeling unwell, or always end up teething. Right, mamas!  So I always try to stay prepared just in case and bring some children’s Tylenol along during trips. Hopefully you won’t need it, but it’s always nice to have on hand, and you’re better safe than sorry!

Snacking Containers

It’s totally normal for kids to start getting bored, restless, and hungry when traveling, especially if you’re in for a long flight or car ride. A great tip is bringing along some of their favorite snacks to hold them through until you get a chance to stop somewhere to eat. These snacking containers are great because they’re compact and convenient. We seriously love these whiskware snack containers so much!

Sound Machine

If you have little ones, you know how necessary a sound machine is. It is a game changer and so great, especially when traveling. It seriously helps everyone sleep through the night without any interruptions.

Puracell Hand Sanitizing Wipes

We all know how difficult everything has been during this pandemic, and traveling with kids can be a little nerve wracking as they love to touch EVERYTHING. Bringing some hand sanitizing wipes along will come in handy, and you’ll probably find yourself using them quite a bit, especially if traveling through the airport. It’s so important to follow COVID protocols and practice safety measures especially in public places, so wiping down everything, and washing your hands/sanitizing regular is so important in helping keep you and your family safe during your trip, as well as everyone around you.

TOP TIPS FOR TRAVELING WITH KIDS

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR DESTINATION

One of my first tips for traveling is to look for family friendly vacations when choosing your destination. There are so many great options out there, some of our personal favorites are Yellowstone National Park, Hawaii, St. George, UT and California. There are a ton of different activities to do as a family, and ones the kids love and enjoy. A great tip is to check Pinterest, Trip Advisor, or Yelp and search for any kid friendly activities and experiences to do once you’ve narrowed down your choices. We also really like to look for local parks to take the kids to and make a day out of that as well.

FINDING WHERE TO STAY
My next tip for traveling is choosing the best place for your family to stay when booking a hotel. When planning your trip, try finding hotels that have a kitchenette and living area. This way you can separate yourselves from the kids for nap time and you can stay up after you putting them to bed without waking them up. Another thing to look for is kid friendly things around the hotel. Look for hotels that have either a children’s playground, a fun pool, or a continental breakfast. These will make your stay easier and enjoyable!
PACKING

When traveling with children, it can be a little hard to pack without going too overboard. You don’t want to pack necessarily too light, because you want to make sure you’ll have everything they need. Using packing cubes to pack has been a serious game changer, and helps keep everything neat, organized and compact. You’ll also find you can fit a lot more into your bag, whether it’s a carry on bag or a check bag. Also, don’t forget to bring a travel pillow for the kids! Chances are, they might fall asleep during the flight, and they’ll stay asleep longer if they’re comfortable. 😉

WHERE TO SIT ON AN AIRPLANE
Choosing where to sit on the plane sounds like a silly step, but trust me, it will definitely help. Our favorite place to sit on the plane is the window seat. It seems to have a little more room as the kids can lean on the window, rather than the person sitting next to them. Keep in mind, most airlines, require car seats be closest to the window if you are taking a car seat on the plane. Always take advantage of the early boarding when you have car seats. If you don’t, try to board the plane last. That’s less time you have to keep your children contained and happy.
