15 THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER
Visit a Farm
If you have a local farm or a local petting zoo near you, this would be a fun spring activity for young kids. We have a few near the area and the kids love the petting zoo. It’s a great way for the kids to learn about the animals while getting to interact with them as well.
Grow a Caterpillar
We recently did this activity together as a family, and the kids loved it. We bought this caterpillar growing kit on amazon and it was so much fun. They loved watching the caterpillar grow, and then getting to let the butterfly fly free. Such a great activity to do if you have little ones, and it’s a great learning opportunity for them too!
Visit a Beach
Beach days are always the best days! If you have a beach or boardwalk near you, this could be a fun activity to do with the kids. It’s family friendly, and it’s a great way to get the kids outdoors and enjoying the beautiful warm weather. You could take some sand toys, build a sand castle, or play with a beach ball. There are so many things you can do with the kids at the beach that they will enjoy and have fun with.
Visit a Flower Festival
If you have a flower festival near you, I would definitely recommend this as a fun activity for the kids. The flower fields are absolutely beautiful, and they have fun activities and vendors for the kids as well.
Go to the Zoo or Petting Zoo
This is the perfect time to take the kids to the zoo if you have one near you. It’s a great way for kids to learn more about different kind of animals. I often take Lucy and Edison to the San Diego Zoo, and they always have such a great time. It’s a fun, family friendly activity that everyone will enjoy.
Paint Spring Pictures
This would be a great activity that can be done either indoors or outdoors. Break out the watercolor paints or crayons and have the kids draw some beautiful spring pictures on a piece of paper.
Host an Outdoor Picnic
Spring is the perfect time to have an outdoor picnic as a family. It’s not too hot, and not too cold, and there aren’t many bugs out yet. You could either bring a homemade lunch your family enjoys, or you could grab takeout on the way. Either way, it’s an enjoyable time for everyone, and a great way to spend the day outdoors.
Grow a Garden
Find some vegetable, fruit or flowers that your kids are interested in planting and have them help you grow a beautiful garden. It’s a great way to teach them responsibility and they’ll be excited when they see it flourish. If you don’t have a big space to do this, you can do something smaller and plant them in a pot, or even in a container.
Host a Sidewalk Art Show
Similar to painting spring pictures, you could have the kids draw their favorite spring-related pictures but using chalk instead! This is a fun way to get their creativity side out and display it for the neighbors to see!
Go on a Nature Walk or Ride Bikes
This may not be the most fun activity for the kids, but you can definitely make it a fun activity for them. A great and fun idea is to create a scavenger hunt for the kids, and you could throw in a fun prize at the end after the walk! It’s a nice way for the kids to be active outdoors and also enjoy nature. This would be the perfect activity for celebrating earth day!
Visit a Splash Pad
If you have a splash pad near you at a nearby park, this would be a fun activity for the kids to enjoy and make tons of splashes! The weather is warmer. The day is longer making it for the perfect time to spend some time outdoors playing with water.
Create a Volcano
If your kids are into science experiments, I found this DIY Volcano Kit on amazon for under $30 that I’m sure they will enjoy. This is a cool idea that the kids will enjoy and have fun with, while also getting to learn a thing or two.
Host a Field Day
Since the weather is warmer during spring, hosting a field day filled with tons of outdoor activities would be a great idea for the whole family to enjoy. You can make a whole day out of it by doing three-legged races, egg-on-a spoon competition’s, water games and grilling out afterwards for a family dinner. This is such a fun and easy idea, though it will definitely take time planning it out.
Create a Putt-Putt Course
Why go out for mini golf when you can create a mini putt putt course right in your own backyard?! You could create the perfect course and make it as challenging as you’d like using simple household items around your home such as boxes, cups, or books.
Fly A Kite
Spring time is the perfect time to fly a kite! There are usually quite a bit of windy days, which is perfect for kite flying. Find an open space to fly your kite so you have plenty of room and you don’t run into any obstacles.
