HOME REMODEL: MODERN FAMILY ROOM REVEAL

WOW!!!
It has only taken me a year and a half to FINALLY share with you all our complete and finished living room. Well (almost) finished. But finished enough to finally reveal this modern family room living space with you all today. Can you tell I am so excited over here! Literally gleaming for joy to share our Classic and modern living room remodel!

This room was NO easy task when we took it into our hands a year and half ago. It had so much Spanish vibes with a very structural fireplace and old dated carpet. (I hope to share a before and after blog post soon to reveal the entire living room renovation!) We have completely transformed this space and made it feel more like home! Now every single time I walk by the living room space I smile and am so happy with how it turned out!

This modern living room is our families gathering space and I really wanted to make it both special and comfortable! I wanted it to feel warm and cozy, which I do feel it portrays, yet while staying true to our style design with a mix of traditional and modern vibes.

(Be sure to see my 5 easy tips on how to style shelves in your home HERE)

Farmhouse Beads with Tassel – I got the color grey. I have these draped out of the basket on the top shelf.

From the bright color scheme down to the vases, each and every piece of furniture and accent was centered around both this gorgeous Interior Define couch we customized and these two Room & Board accent chairs!  When contemplating what we wanted in this space, we knew we needed a sectional that would fit the room’s layout and design perfectly! Interior Define made it so easy to choose because we were able to customize our selection and make it fit our home style. We choose the Owens U-Sectional in the Suit fabric with a matte brass finish on the square outline legs and I am still in love with how it turned out. It is hard to tell, but the Suit fabric choice has a subtle herringbone pattern in it, which gives off the perfect amount of texture.

I have had my eye on these Callan Accent chairs from Room & Board for over 2 years! I have always been obsessed with the gorgeous brown, cognac color and overall design of the chair. I actually almost decided on the black chairs back when we first bought this home, but am so grateful that went with my gut and went with the cognac brown color. It pairs so beautifully with our natural wood colored ceilings.

As I mentioned earlier, this Modern Living Room Remodel is (almost) complete. I say that because we still have a few things to fix and add!

MORE FIREWOOD in the wood box to be one of them!! I laugh with you all because I was dying when I order 4 boxes of birch wood a few weeks before shooting this and officially finishing our fireplace that sat unfinished for 9 months. In my mind, I thought 4 boxes of 10 logs would at least fill the wood box half way! BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

I was laughing hysterically when the first box I stacked gave me two rows. TWO ROWS!! I even brought out a ladder and everything!! Long story short, Brandon makes fun of me on a regular that I only bought 40 logs! But to me, I had a vision that they would be a bit larger in scale!

So, with that being said, I do plan to order more logs to fill up the entire woodbox for a more complete look! I had already scheduled the photoshoot and didn’t have time to order more logs.

A lot of patience and LOVE went into this room. Brandon and I both played a big roll into how it was designed and of course contracted. We couldn’t do it without the help of some amazing people and brands.

5 EASY TIPS ON HOW TO STYLE SHELVES IN YOUR HOME

We are getting SO close to finishing our living room after we started the renovation process almost a year ago. It’s been a long and fun journey, but I am happy to finally see light at the end of the tunnel. It’s true when they say, good things take time!! I have officially started to style our shelves in the living room and I will just go ahead and say that styling shelves is NO JOKE!!! Anyone who knows how to style shelves and do it well deserves a pat on the back!

I am still not quite finished styling the shelves, but I have come a long way and with that have done LOTS of online searching! Searching for those perfect key decor pieces to add to shelves and spaces that need some styling. I can’t wait to do a full reveal of the living room, which is coming soon, but first we have to finish painting and staining cabinets! You’ll just have to wait and see what we decided to officially do with our floating cabinets. We will either paint them black or stain them to match the floating shelves! Be sure to stay tuned.

5 Tips on How to Style Shelves in Your Home by popular Souther California lifestyle blog, Navy Grace: image of two floating shelves decorated with plants, books, baskets, picture frames, and pottery.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many images I have saved prior to beginning the styling of my home, specifically when I was figuring out how to style shelves in my living room, bathroom and kitchen. I have an album on my phone, IG, and of course many pins on Pinterest. During my searches, I have found a few things in common; Vases, candle sticks, art pieces, plants, frames, books, and baskets, are the KEY to success when styling shelves. Or at least that is what I have been really drawn to in most of the inspiration photos I have saved.

5 TIPS ON HOW TO STYLE SHELVES IN YOUR HOME

Add Plants – When in doubt, add a plant! A bit of green goes a long ways when it comes to shelves and adds the perfect amount of color, especially if you are keeping to a more neutral color scheme.

Stick to Color Scheme – Decide on if you want bright colors, neutrals, black and whites, or a pop of color. I decided to keep mine simple and neutral with pops of black to accent the rest of the home.

Mix a Variety of Vases – A variety of vases in all shapes, sizes, and heights makes for easy styling. Buy several and play around with them

Add Books – Books are a great ‘fill in’ decor piece to add. You can layer them like I did and use to create more height. Or you can turn them around to see the pages and place them between book ends.

Art Pieces – Find a piece or two you love and layer them. I still want to add an art piece to the top of this shelf, just waiting to find that perfect piece. Layer art with your family photos too!

HOME EDIT: BENCHES

It’s three for three people!
I have officially made the third Home Edit post for the third week in a row. Go me! I of course, have you all to thank! I am getting messages saying that you love this new series on Navy Grace. But not only are the messages so kind, I am noticing a huge interest on my stories, from swipe ups and sales. So thank you!

This week I wanted to share all about benches!! I was on the hunt to find this woven one that I finally got. But let me tell you, I hunted and hunted and hunted to find the perfect bench to add to our entry way. Along the way and the search I found so many I really did love, but of course I had to narrow it down. I feel that several of these choices are great for entry ways, bedrooms, kids room, and mudrooms.

I chose this specific bench because it stood out to me. It was a great length, for what I was needing, and I loved the woven texture. It wasn’t too formal, like so many benches can become, and it was different from what I was seeing from other bench searches. Lastly, it was affordable!

HOME EDIT: FLORAL VASES

Happy Tuesday!

I had such a great response to starting my new Home Edit series on Navy Grace last week that I decided to share another new one this week! Again, I am not sure how often I will be sharing these Home Edit posts, I would love to make it a weekly thing, if possible! I will shoot for that goal and see what happens. But knowing that you readers are just as excited about it as I am makes me thrilled to do the work.
You can check out last weeks Home Edit on Full Length Mirrors here.

For this weeks Home Edit, I wanted to focus on all vases and floral vases. It seems that I have constantly been on the hunt for new vases to add around the house. Empty vases or vases with real flowers or even faux flower/plant arrangements are the easiest way to dress up any corner or shelf in your home. I have slowly been adding them all around my kitchen counters, bathrooms, floating shelves and tables.

It even seems that I have a color theme going on, can you notice! I am definitely drawn to white, creams, blush pinks and black vases. Of course there are some other colors in there, but my eyes must catch the more neutral tones.

Camilla of Navy Grace is sharing week two of her new Home Edit series. This week is all about floral vases, where she buys them and how to style.

SATURDAY TOP FIVE FAVORITE: HOME GOODIES

Changing this up this week on my Saturday Top Five Favorites, but all for good reasons! I have been hunting non stop for little home goodies to buy for the house. It has honestly been so fun to add character to our newly renovated home we got this April. It was a long road, but now that I can see the end of the tunnel, it makes the furnishing and adding trinkets so fun.

I have been on the buy and return items for the home for a while now. Buying to make sure it fits the space, the style I am going for etc. It’s fun but also SUPER challenging. Especially shelves. Dang shelves are hard. But that is why I wanted to share tons of cute little trinkets and home goodies with you today that are all very affordable.

TOP FIVE HOME GOODIES

Rattan Basket – Adoring this, the vibes this basket brings to me. I am going to order this ASAP. I love the leather handle detailing too.

Gold Metal Leaf Tray – So gorgeous weather it sits on a shelf or you actually use it to serve food on it.

Hands Stoneware vase/glass – It’s unique which is why I was drawn to it. I love it just by itself and want it for our office shelving placed on top of books.

Metal Watering Can – If you have tons of small plants around your house like I do, then I think we both deserve this darling watering can. Plus, if you leave it out, it’s darling so who cares.

Rubberwood Chopping Board – Comes in two different sizes. I just love how fun these are with the leather handle

Bamboo Bread Basket – I don’t even think I would use this for bread, only because I keep mine in the fridge, but I am obsessed with this basket.

Black Wire Basket – Such a cute and simple basket, would make for a great place to store all your chatbooks. We have several and think they would fit perfectly inside.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3425838″]
