#MOMTALKMONDAY: NAP TIME QUESTIONS

Happy Monday Mamas!!

I feel like we are in a good spot where Edison is sleeping great at night. He gets up once around 5 or sometimes not at all, and wakes up at 7. But nap time is where the struggle has been lately.
He used to be a good napper, and by good I mean 2 to 2.5 hour naps in the morning. Afternoons we are typically out and about and he gets a good 30 minutes – 1 hour nap in the car.

Lately though Edison has been napping only 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes ON THE DOT. I swear. How does he know?
And surprisingly you can’t get much done in an hour 🙁 Just enough time to get ready and may pick up the house so I am hoping to end this soon.

So, how do I break this record of his. I would love to get him sleeping 2-3 hours in the morning and keep is afternoon nap short.
How do I get him to sleep longer?
Currently we get up around 7 or 8 and he is down for a nap usually around 10 am.

When is a good time to start transition to one nap a day?
Or should I not stress over tying to get to one nap a day so fast? He is 10.5 months old
Would black out curtains help the situation?

We do use a white noise machine.
I also rock him to sleep every time and lay him down.
Should I put him down drowsy and make him self-soothe himself to sleep?

I feel like I am rambling a bit BUT…
I would love any or all of your input!
Feel free to comment here or on my latest IG post so that other mamas can see your wonderful advice!

My son is turning 11 months in 2 days and yes, he was a good sleeper too. Sleeps throughout the night and his naps were 2-3 hrs straight but 2 weeks ago he started taking 30-45 min naps. I Believe it’s just part of an age stage.

This makes me feel so much better.. kinda 🙂
As long as it is just a age phase then I am okay! The fun thing about babies is they go in and out of good and bad phases rather quickly! Hoping he goes through this one fast though.. and I am sure you are too!

    You can do 2 things.
    1) wake him up no later than 7am and have him down for his morning nap by 9am- this will help keep the 2 naps. Or
    2) Start to delay the morning nap. If he’s not taking it by 9am then I’d transition him to 1 nap. Start delaying it by 10/15 min every day until you find a good mid day time. Sometimes they only make it to 11, and that is just fine.
You might also need to move up bedtime when he goes to 1 nap, just keep an eye on his afternoon behavior and don’t be afraid of a 6:30pm bedtime, he might really need it.
As far as how to put him down, that is up to you. I’ve done both routes, I prefer to have them self soothe b/c I don’t have time anymore to sit with them. So it’s up to you. If you keep holding him, when he transitions to a big boy bed, you will need to lay with him to get him to sleep. (Just to keep in mind for the near future.) Hope this helps!! It’s a very normal transition at his age 🙂
