MOM TALK MONDAY: QUESTIONS ABOUT DISCIPLINING A TODDLER

Happy Monday Mamas!

I am coming to YOU for a question for this Mom Talk Monday!
We are just shy of a couple weeks before Edison turns two and boy oh boy, we are fully into the terrible twos phase. I hate saying that, but it is here and in almost in full force. I say ‘almost’ knowing that it will most likely get worse, but it’s all a phase and I have to just tell myself that.  He is the sweetest little boy, then in a snap, terrible twos take over. Tantrums, major attitude, telling me no and now the hitting and pulling my hair.

I had heard great advice about hitting and have been using it. But it is no longer working and I am in need of a new direction of how to discipline a toddler. Any time Edison decided to lash out and hit me or yank on my hair, I would grab both of his hands and firmly hold them down on his side and hold for a few seconds while expressing that we do not hit, and that hitting is not very kind and that it hurts mama. I still continue to do this, but his reaction has shifted. He used to get sad when I would hold his hands down and tell him no, but now he knows that the discipline is coming and before I even get the chance to grab his arms and hold them down on his side he just giggles. He doesn’t seem to take it seriously, but how could he, he is two! I get that. But, I don’t think this method is working any more.

How do you discipline your kids and toddlers?
Do you discipline differently for different occasions. At home verses in public.
How do you discipline for hitting and pulling hair?
How do you discipline for throwing a tantrum?
I would love to hear any other situations you need to discipline for as well. Maybe something that we haven’t crossed paths with yet, but is of course coming.
I would love to hear from you!!!

I know several of you will ask for me to share the responses, and I definitely plan to help you other mamas out and share the advice I am given!

Here are links to some items in Edison’s room! If you want to check out my Fall edit for Edison’s clothes, too, you can find that here!
