5 NEW THINGS I AM TRYING DURING QUARANTINE
1// Sweating Daily
Before having Lucy I was going to the gym at least 3 or 4 times a week. I had a good groove going and found a love taking the classes. I enjoyed Barre, Body Pump and Body Combat. However Ever since having Lucy I haven’t made it back to the gym. I waited until she was 6 months, but that fell right during the winter and cold season and didn’t want to leave her in the gym child care. So I waited until she was 8-9 months after the sick season but then we ended up getting a Peloton bike. Staying home to work out was easier while Brandon took her to the gym daycare so I could workout and work on emails in peace.
Now, I am beyond ready to get back to the gym, it’s probably because it’s not even an option right now due to gyms being close because of Covid-19. But that is not stopping me! With everything going on right now, I have made it a goal to sweat daily! If it doesn’t happen daily, I make sure I am working out at least 4 times a week. Most days I ride the Peloton bike. (My username is Camillarose) After riding the bike, I will go and do a simple 5 or 10 minute core workout as well as a 5 or 10 minute cool down stretch. With all that combined I am usually sweating for almost an hour. I feel so much better too after moving my body. It sure isn’t easy with kids crying or crawling all over me, but I have made it a priority and am loving the results I have started to see.
2// Getting Fresh Air While Working
Ever since the weather has been nice I have found that working outside is SO refreshing. I try to do it daily during Lucy’s second nap of the day and when Edison is in his room for quiet time. I have really found joy in coming outside to sit on our patio furniture and just enjoy my time alone listening to the pool fountain running and the birds chirping. Corny I know, but I feel so refreshed after coming back inside the house. Even if the weather is still a little chilly, I’ll grab a blanket put on a cozy sweater and socks and work on emails or blog posts in the fresh air. It wasn’t until our house was being painted a few days ago that I realized just how much I loved working on my computer outside. All of our patio furniture was moved away from the house making it so I couldn’t go work outside and I really missed it!
After listening to 3 in 30 Takeaways For Moms Podcast a few months ago. I was so motivated to start journaling. I listened to Episode #2 Easy Ways to Capture Memories of Motherhood with Laura Webb. She shares her love to journal and gives several tips and easy ways to jot down great memories of your kids. It really left an impact with me and I knew I wanted to start right away. Some weeks I am great and do it daily, other weeks I do it only twice. But I started back at in the middle of February and already love going back to read the stories and memories about my family and kids. I know it will be something I will cherish forever, especially this phase that Edison is in. He is constantly telling us stories and saying cute phrases that I know I will forget in a year.
Before I started to journal I thought I did pretty good at writing down things that the kids did or said and would write them in their personal IG accounts that I later get printed through chat books, but it turns out I am not good at all. I am months, and for Edison years behind. I knew things needed to change! Go listen to her episode, I promise it is worth it. For me, I have found that writing my journal in a Google Doc is easiest. It is convenient and I can access on both my phone an computer. The best time I love to write in the journal is while I nurse Lucy in the evenings before bed. But I can guarantee I will hurry and grab my phone after Edison says the cutest phrase to jot it down that way I don’t forget exactly how he said it.
4// Slowing Down Our Mornings
Sometimes easier said than done! But, with a new quarantine schedule (you can read our schedule HERE) I have found that just being present in the mornings after I exercise is so important to my kids. Spending that one on one time with Edison during Lucy’s first nap is something he has really needed in his life lately. I have seen a shift in him and he needs that special mommy and me time without Lucy distracting us! Because we aren’t leaving the house lately, I have been putting off getting ready or showering until closer to 11 or 1 pm until after I give Edison some focused attention. I have decided that getting ready it isn’t a high priority in the mornings. Although I do still feel like getting ready at some point in the early afternoon is still important to me. Putting on makeup and fixing my hair is key to having a productive day!
5// Spending More Time Outside With My Family
As I mentioned earlier that being outside has been a major priority for us lately. I am trying to really bring Edison and Lucy outside more, wether that is for playing in dirt, going for a wagon ride, swimming in our pool, a family walk around the neighborhood, letting Edison ride his bike on the driveway and one of my favorites lately eating lunch or dinner on our porch. I feel like spending time outside is naturally something we all tend to do as the temperatures start to get warmer, but I have really found that by spending an hour or two outside has made us all a little happier and more sane the last few weeks 🙂 Just one more new thing to try during quarantine
